In 1999, a New England based org approached us about the possibility of a bridge loan to help them complete the purchase of open space in a village in Maine. Having a past grant history with the entity, the board approved a one year loan and the Norcross Wildlife Foundation Land Loan Protection Fund was born. Since that fateful event, the Land Loan Protection Fund has issued over 125 loans worth over $21,000,000 to land trusts and conservation orgs. This support has made it possible for others to conserve almost 39,500 acres of undeveloped or at risk land across the country.
